When using Solitical, you expressly consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your information as described in this Privacy Policy.
Solitical empowers you to 1) identify and connect with your local, state and federal elected officials and candidates for political office to effectuate societal change; 2) communicate with existing contact, as well as identify and connect with new voters, for the purpose of exchanging social views and fomenting political action; and 3) learn more about the political process and actors in order to stay vigilant of your government.
If you have any questions concerning this Privacy Policy, please email us at privacy@solitical.com.
Solitical obtains information in two ways. First, we collect information directly from you. Secondly, we receive information based on your use of our service.
From you, we collect information such as your name, email address, zip code and date of birth. This information is used to create your user profile, contact you if necessary and to identify your elected officials. You may choose to add additional information such as interests, political ideology and other identifiers to your profile as you see fit. We also collect information regarding your communications with other public users, interaction with all users, as well as your own on-site behavior, such as searches and browsing.
Solitical can collect data about how you use our services. To do so Solitical uses a variety of technical means. One tool is the use of automatically collected server logs. Server logs include information such as how you use the service, your IP address, browser type, search queries, and external links you explore.
Often this collection may include the use of cookies or simply storing data on the pages and services viewed and used. While you have the ability to configure your web browser to block cookies, as well as set notifications on the use of cookies, you should enable cookies from Solitical to ensure the optimal benefit from our Service. Some of these benefits include enabling automatic login and more personalized user visits.
Generally, the information collected by Solitical is used to ensure our ability to provide the service as well as help us improve the quality of that service. It also helps for us to know what you like to do with our Service, so that we can support those capabilities and potentially develop new ones you could like.
More specifically, we use your profile information as well as information you post to Solitical to assist you in finding other users you know or new users in and out of your geographic area who may share similar political interests. Similarly, this information can be used to help other users find you in the interest of sharing their views.
You have the ability to limit the universe of users who have access to information you post on the site (other than your name, which is public) through the use of our privacy controls found in the Account Settings. If you do so, you will still have the ability to find other users, but their ability to interact with you will be much more limited. You will also have the ability to set up your account to direct communications to more select groups of users in an effort to better tailor your political communication.
However, it should be noted, that all posts or messages on pages of public persons or groups are publicly available and this posted information may contain your profile and real name. Solitical believes that conducting political discussions under your real name helps produce more responsible discourse. You will have the ability in one area of the website to conduct anonymous discourse with more limited functionality if you so choose.
We also, commonly compile statistics of user viewpoints on issues and personalities for presenting collective views of Solitical users. If you have expressed a political viewpoint, either in your profile information, on a message board or on a public page, that information - not tied to personally identifiable information of yours - may be used in the aggregate (i.e. polling). These aggregate reports may be used to capture the attitude of Solitical users for commentary purpose to promote public discourse on social involvement. This non-personally-identifiable information may be shared with third parties to do so.
In addition to the specific uses discussed in the Privacy Policy, Solitical may make use of your collected information to maintain the technical operations of the Service. This includes using your information to protect and improve the Service.
While Solitical will seek to limit communications with you via the email address provided at registration, we may reach out to you to send updates or information regarding our Service. This could be to make you aware of new services as well as to provide custom content we believe could be of interest to you. However, we will not make your email address available to others outside of the requirements of this Privacy Policy.
While using the service, you may receive internal Service messages from Solitical or other parties. Other users have the ability to contact you through the Service and may do so in an effort to foster political engagement. Of course, you may adjust your Account Settings to prevent receiving messages from other users.
In the interest of ensuring the Service is provided, we may share your information with third parties we have engaged for the operating of the Service. When this is done, it will only be done to the extent necessary to provide the Service and in a manner reflective of the intentions of the Privacy Policy and our desire to protect your information.
We may also share aggregated user data - without personally identifiable information - with entities that advertise on Solitical so that they may better provide ads which may interest you. At no time will we share personally identifiable information with advertisers without your consent.
If we believe that it is necessary to disclose your information to comply with a law, regulation, legal demand, or to protect the safety of any individual we may disclose personal information. We also reserve the right to disclose personal information to protect Solitical's rights or property.
If Solitical is involved in the sale or transfer of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. This Privacy Policy will continue to protect your personal information after that sale unless revised.
We will not unilaterally share your information outside the bounds of this Privacy Policy. However, we may share your information in ways not covered in the Privacy Policy with your consent.
Solitical provides users with access to a vast collection of information on government and politics. Much of that information is provided via links to external websites. You should be aware that when linking to an external website their privacy policy - not Solitical's - controls use on their website. Regardless, we will not share your personal information with these external websites without your consent.
Solitical takes reasonable precautions to protect user information that is under our control. One way we do so is by requiring user-created passwords for accounts accessed by Solitical users. Another measure we use is only allowing access to user information to employees who have a need for such information.
Despite our considerable efforts, we do not make any guarantee of the security of your information as described in the Privacy Policy. However, we will comply with the evolving regulatory framework and standards to protect your information and will take all reasonable measures to secure your information. If a breach were to occur, Solitical may contact you at the email address we have on record to inform you of the breach. If required by law, and we have your address on file we make other efforts to contact you by mail.
This Privacy Policy may occasionally be updated. We will notify users when a new Privacy Policy is adopted. We may provide users a period of review before a new Privacy Policy goes into effect.
